Product Overview:
The Laser Center/Edge Finder ® is a new tool for your mill that will save setup time. For the new Home Shop Machinist it will eliminate the frustrations and doubts of learning the century old Indirect Method with the conventional Edge Finders or Wiggler.

The Laser Center/Edge Finder ® is a Direct Method center or edge finder. Current Center/Edge Finders are Indirect Methods. Current Finders require the Mill operator to determine where the edge of the material is by imposing sufficient pressure on the finder to just slightly bump the material and then move over one-half the diameter of the edge finder to locate the true edge of the material. Another accepted method is a center/edge finder that has a spring loaded conical disc that kicks sideways when touching the edge of the material and the Mill operator then moves the mill table over one-half the diameter of the edge finder to locate the true edge of the material.

The mechanical/electrical center/edge finders function as the mechanical ones do except that instead of a spring loaded offset disc it utilizes electrical continuity to determine when the edge finder has contacted the material (not always useful on non-conducting material). The Mill operator hears an audible signal or a light comes on indicating contact has been made. The operator must still add half the diameter of the edge finder to determine the true edge of the material.

The Laser Center/Edge Finder ® only requires the Mill operator to move the table under the small Laser beam until the laser light shows that the light is at the edge of the material to locate the true edge of the material. If the Mill operator is attempting to position the Mill quill to a Center Punched mark on the material, the table is moved until the laser light centers on the punched mark. In both instances this Direct Method eliminates the most common mistake of forgetting to add half the diameter of the conventional center/edge finder to locate the true edge of the material.

Polarizing Attachment for Laser Centre Finder  (Ref: LCEP.)

What does it do?
The LC/EF Polarizing Attachment was developed to control the size of the laser dot, making viewing easier and more accurate on a variety of surfaces. This is accomplished by the addition of a linear polarizer element to effectively control the intensity of the laser beam. A lower intensity beam is easier for the human visual system to resolve, especially on reflective surfaces.

How does it work?
The polarizer simply slips over the nose of the LC/EF. Rotating the attachment varies the intensity of the light striking the target surface.
Adjusting the intensity will make the dot appear smaller by reducing the "halo" effect that is produced as the beam is scattered by the target surface and the diffraction pattern caused by passing a beam of light through a small opening.

Here is another way to look at it. When the laser is reflected from the target surface there is a primary "hot spot" at the center of the beam surrounded by a secondary ring of reduced intensity. By polarizing the beam we can begin to eliminate the secondary ring, making the primary hot spot easier to see.

Suits both the above models !The LC/EF Magnetic Holder is CNC'd from a 6061 billet and a large NdFeB Rare Earth magnet is attached to the back of the holder so you can stick your LC/EF in any handy location...that is made of steel or iron of course. The lettering is engraved with a ball mill and then hand painted.

The LC/EF Holder is FOR STORAGE ONLY. The acutal LC/EF unit must be held in a chuck or collet to function properly. The holder CAN NOT be used to hold the LC/EF during operations. All LC/EF holders now have a 1/2" hole in the bottom so the LC/EF can be stored with the polarizer attached. Simply flip the LC/EF upside down. How does it work? It works great! Try sticking it on the mill head for quick access. No more digging around in a drawer or worrying about it rolling off your table.

Centre Finder for Round Bar  (Ref: CF1)

A Suberb tool for finding the centre of a round bar.Simply place the centre finder in your drill chuck or collet located in the machine spindle.. Align the legs of the centre finder perpendicular to the workpiece held in a vice. Move the machine spindle down until the legs contact the workpiece. Look at the pointer & line scribed on the shaft of the centre finder. If they are not in line move the x or y axis until everything is properley located.
